Each children’s minister or teacher knows that you can never be too careful about who you let interact with kids. Sexual abuse affects 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys, and the vast majority of perpetrators are known and trusted by both the victims and other adults in their church or school. BAANK has developed a comprehensive program for screening volunteers who work with children, which we call the SAFE Program (Safe Environment For Everyone). We are willing to provide this program to organizations that want it. Although no method is a fail-safe way to prevent sexual abuse from occurring, the SAFE program is about taking all the precautions we can, including a personal interview and a requirement that volunteers renew their certification every 2 years.
